POSITION SUMMARY
Offers nutritional guidance and assistance for patients enrolled in the diabetes outpatient self-management program, those receiving home health services, and individuals attending the bariatric surgery clinic.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
- B.S. or B.A. in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or Home Economics with a major in Food and Nutrition.
Minimum Work Experience
- Two years’ experience in nutrition counseling with at least 1,000 hours of direct diabetic management and/or 26 hours of professional diabetic education.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Registered with Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association. Licensed as a Dietitian be the State of Texas.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to meet minimum hiring standards.

- Assists the Compliance Officer and the Executive Compliance Committee in identifying "high risk" issues within his/her department.
- Complies with all HIPAA standards.
- Provides nutrition education for the diabetes outpatient self-management program, which educates participants in successful management of diabetes, including education about self-monitoring of blood glucose, diet and exercise, psychosocial issues and prevention of long-term complications.
- Provides medical nutrition therapy services to bariatric surgery patients and home health patients and/or families including assessment of nutritional status, nutrition care planning, counseling and evaluation.
- Interacts with other health care team members in information exchange for planning and delivering appropriate patient care.
