Job Description

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist (contract) with a strong background in both import and export, with a heavier focus on the import side. This is a remote contract position with the potential for permanent placement if the candidate is a good fit within the team. The ideal candidate will have experience with customer screening, HTS classification, country of origin determination, and global customs, along with a solid understanding of export classification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Screening/Due Diligence: Conduct screenings of customers in compliance with global trade regulations and ensure due diligence processes are in place for high-risk entities.
  • HTS Classification: Perform HTS classification for a wide range of products to ensure accurate tariff compliance and to optimize duty savings.
  • Country of Origin: Determine and verify the country of origin for products, ensuring compliance with trade laws and regulations.
  • Global Customs Experience: Apply knowledge of global customs procedures, regulations, and trade agreements to facilitate international trade operations.
  • Export Classification: While the focus is on import compliance, some experience with export classification and the ability to manage export documentation is preferred.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have prior experience in high-tech or highly regulated industries (e.g., Defense, Aerospace, Semiconductor). Candidates with a background in semiconductor industries are particularly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Import Compliance, including HTS classification, country of origin determination, and global customs.
  • Exposure to Export Classification is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience in Customer Screening and Due Diligence related to trade compliance.
  • Industry Experience: Must come from a high-tech or highly regulated industry (Defense, Aerospace, Semiconductor industries are strongly preferred).
  • Skills: Proficiency in HTS classification, customer screening, global customs procedures, and country of origin determination.
  • Work Experience: 3+ years of experience in trade compliance or customs roles, with a focus on import compliance.
  • Education: A degree in Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related field is preferred.
